Cost of getting married

Can any of you guys that have got (or thought about/priced up) married, let me know roughly how much the actual day cost?

I.e ceremony, accomodation, reception/food etc.

Its not me thats getting married, its an immediate female family member that isnt my mother or daughter....

Were trying to sort some money out for the big day and looking for a figure to base our calcs on.

(a case of they're organising/sorting it all, and the old fella is picking up the bill)

No two people will have the same costs, im trying to do mine on the cheap making invites, favours, order of service etc.

Its the food thats bumps the bill up though.we are looking at about £3.5k for the breakfast (about 100 guests) and a further £1.4k for evening buffet (100 guests, but this is a very basic buffet)

Our guestimate (quiet a detailed list, everythink we can think of) is comming in at around £14k, minus the honeymoon. can be done cheaper but that covers just about everything we want.

I think you should post pictures of the aforementioned bride to be so we can decide upon appropriate ceremonial robes.

We're getting married in just over 6 weeks (oh Fuck!). we're doing it in Jamaica cos it is massivly cheeper!

It's costing roughly:

Holiday (with wedding thrown in) £3700
Reception - Room £300, DJ £150. Buffet/bun fight, £10.95 per person (minimum of 100 people), my bar bill - priceless!
Her dress - fook knows, shes paying
Then loads of silly little crap like cakes etc at least a grand...

Her friends have spend 12-15k on weddings over here and they where not that big...

Dress/Suit £2000
Church £450 (no flowers)
Reception (Racecourse) £3000
Cars £0 (used our own)
Photo’s £1000
Favours, gifts, and misc stuff that cropped up as we went along £1000

This was 8 years ago, and we've not had a honeymoon yet

Dont forget the 'everything you earn for the rest of your life' jokes in there somewhere.

Plus the £200k each for kids.

its things like this that make me not want to get married... Think of the cars, mods, tools, garage extention etc you could buy with the money.

Why do you need a big house? You get a small house with enough land to build a big garage.

Steve, agreed, they are struggling like mad to get their foot on the property ladder, and it seems they would prefer the old man blows £20k on a wedding rather then have a low key affair and put the remainding money to good use? madness.

We spent 6 or 7k I think, maybe less, honeymoon was only a few hundred quid.

We had a great time.

Mine was roughly about £6000-£7000 and it was the dogs bollocks!!! Went to Cuba for two weeks for honeymoon, booked it as a last minute deal from thompsons. £600 each all inclusive. You'll do it all for less than £10000...................Or you can build yourself an evil boost happy turbo.

always fancied going to Cuba.......maybe next year

We did a ceremony in a hotel for 9 family members - went on honeymoon then came back and had an evening do at another hotel with disco and hot buffet (proper meals not snacks) for £5000 including the cost of refilling hotel fire extinquishers that my guest kindly let off!
