I have just replaced the ring gear on my ultralight flywheel.

The ring gear was possible to push on with just my hands/my weight with both parts the same temperature. This can not be right?

At the time I just thought, okay, its a slight pressfit, and its going to be welded. I welded it up on the end of all the 6 "spokes" on the ultralight flywheel.

Then I started thinking, will it be alright, even if its not a proper pressfit like they should be?

I can't see why not, its not going anywhere if its welded? How easy did the old one come off?

I guess the only reason they are a tighter fit on the cast flywheel is to avoid the need of welding? *oh well*

I always thought it had to be heated and clamped up as it cooled?

leeds/wakefield.

i wouldn't worry too much, if youv'e tack welded it it'll go nowhere,

My very forst Ti flywheel ended up like this and i just held it in place with 12 m3 capscrews, job done,
