Hi Guys. Has anyone ever had a crank pulley come loose? I have a 1310 with a supercharger and last night I dug it out the garage for the 1st time in ages as the tax runs out next week. Anyway I was giving it some stick and it started to sound non too healthy under load, and my clutch felt a little unusall. Anyway to cut a long story short when I got it back to the garage it appears my crank pulley has been floating in and out. I havent got as far as strip it down but has anyone ever had htis or heard ogf this happen? ( I havent) The bolt went in with a new locktab washer etc when I fitted the charger. Is it likely to have come loose or am I likely to be looking at something more sinister? Good it be badlt damaged thrusts? I am just looking for peoples thoughts.
Cheers is advance.

Thrust bearings wont have any effect on the tightness of the bolt.

I have had the bolt come loose a couple of times, but Im using the Minispares longer cap head bolt, which has no locktab. I used loctite, but it still came loose. This caused a retard of around 30 degrees as the trigger wheel is mounted by the bolt too.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

It was more the movement I have on the pulley I was worried about as it can be moved in and out. I ran out of time last night but when I got my fingers on the bolt I couldnt move it.

If you mean the pulley is shifting in and out while running, and you think your clutch felt different, its screaming thrust bearings to me!

Push the pulley as far "in" to the engine as possible, then get a mate to stand on the clutch pedal and watch for movement, then get ready to rebuild it lol

Good luck

I find the easiest way is to super glue the bolt to the end of one of my fingers.

Yes my crank pulley was very loose when I came to remove the pulley so it could get machined. Quite worrying really!

It's now back on very tight, with loctite as well.

Well the pulley was as tight as the day it was fitted. So it looks like the whole lot has to come out now *frown*. Just as we were getting some decent weather. Well at least I know I dont have to tax it at the end of the month.
