I've had a new HD and everything installed on my laptop, but now can't get my data aq software (that works thru com1) to talk to my laptop. I know that when I first set this up through my COM1 serial few years back the supplier of the unit talked me thru pinging my com port to check it was working.

Yep that is all I would do. Short out pins 2 & 3, then in hyperterminal you should see the letters you type appear. http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk

sure your baud rate is set up correctly, hyperterminal may not default to what you need.

if you have the fifo buffers engabled, try turning them right down or disabling them, it can play havoc with real time data streams and some legacy stuff sure youll find it in my computer - device manager - serial port turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

Well, it was working all along - I was just being a dumbass and still had it looking for a CAN signal rather than Autosense... I did the stuff in the link above, which was very useful! Thanks On 17th Nov, 2014 Tom Fenton said:

That's likely because it's not a real physical com port but a loop back com port. This is used for testing and can't be used for comm. Your actual com port is on another number.
