Thinking of getting a tracker for a recent purchase.

Anyone have any recommendations as there seems to be loads of different ones out there.. also is there a national company that’s know to offer a good fitting service? or any experts in the midlands?

if you have one, how much did it set you back and what are the running costs?

Cheers.

I Had to get one fitted to my Subaru before the insurance would entertain insuring me. I just went for the basic TRACKER one, got fitted at a local garage. Never had to contact them, but they take £99 a year for the subscription.

if the car is picked up at any point the tracker will not work, they only work if the car is actually running or moving so i was told.

You can get a tracker monitor with a motion sensor in it, this will go off when the car is moved without the engine being started, e.g. on a trailer.

I think you can also pay a life time charge, around £300 for the subscription. Its worth it if your keeping it in the long run

not sure I would want the car back... rather have the cash and get a new one.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

can you not just but a crp old phone and put a pay as you go sim in it.
Hard wire the charger up to the ignition, allowing it to chare automatically when you drive.

As long as the phone is hidden, any thief would be no the wiser. in the event of it being stolen, the police can just track the phone signal :)

could be done for less then £30 and a hour or so work.

i havent thought this through though so it might not work lol

A few insurence companies insisted on me having a tracker on my lotus. I just found companies that didn't. They were more expensive than the ones demanding trackers, but not as expensive as fitting and subscribing to a tracker service.

Ah well I don't have the lotus anymore, but it was just with normal people. Asda, direct line, that sort of thing.

Not being funny alex, but your M5 is comming up for ten years old and does not have, and maybe never has had a tracker fitted.

So why fit one now?

160 banana ‘K’ variety – it could be the lotus race exhaust and induction kit upgrade that is putting the insurance pep’s off.. however I think I have sorted this now at a reasonable price. :)
