What is a general running oil temp ,and what would you say a maximun is?

A bit ot but younger bro has a vag 20v turbo motor and he thinks its getting too warm so needing a bigger oil cooler?

Basicly the car standard is 180bhp and his is 240bhp.

Unless he is using it on a circuit all day I would say this is not needed - are you sure it does not have one as std? Water cooled ?

Yes its a water cooled one, its also got a factory temp gauge in the car.

He sees normal running around 90 but as soon as its on boost its up to 100 but if your on power for 5mins its hitting 110-115

We did cadwell the other week , i didnt get it past 110 but i dont rev the ass off it but he reconed it went over 115 when he was driving.

120-130 deg c is a max from what i've heard, a tad hotter for some synthetics.

surely it depends what oil is being used. It might be worth speaking to the manufacturer

I think its best to check against the oil spec you've got in it Rick.

Most synth's do get hot. But are tested up to about 150'c I think.
(Mobil 1 0w - 40 of the top of my head.) Its what I put in the clio.
Costco £20 for a 4.5lts.

Flash point of about 230'c.. Cool Flames.....!

But 120'c your getting up there..
