My strap one is worn out and before I splash out on a new one I wondered if oil filter pliers were any good, or what else people used or found effective.

Cheers

hehehe

i use the pliers type one, the only problem i have found is you can crush the bottom of the filter if its a little tight. apart from that a top tool :)

edit: this is mine:

I have a box set of cups. The sit on the bottom of the filter and then plug onto your rachet. makes getting them of under the front of the car nice and easy

The past few times ive removed an oil filter was with a sheet of wet and dry. Gives you enough grip to undo by hand :)

Pair of latex gloves on and a bit of muscle also seems to work.

I made my own chain type with an old timing chain welded to a scrap socket extension, its worked fine for over 25 years.

I use the pliers type - same as the ones pictured above - never had an issue with them.

Herefordshire

hahahahahahahhahaha what an error that was with your strap on comment!!!

On agricultural filters they tend to have a nut on the bottom so you can just use a spanner to get it off

WHY CANT THEY DO THIS WITH CAR FILTERS???????

I just take the grille off for a bit of extra working space.

They used to do with the old ones. I think I've got one knocking round somewhere. Came of an early 1275GT

Nic is talking about a nut being welded to the end of a normal oil filter.
