I read on here that B&Q sell sheet steel, so I had a look yesterday when I was in there. A sheet 1m x .5m x .5mm was £38 *surprised* (it was nicely laminated in some plastic packaging though)

Is this expensive, or is this what sheet metal costs these days?

Anyhow, I'll go to the fabrication place near work and see if they have any off cuts.

DOn't know where you are in S.Y. But BEavers at Shafton in Bransley charge £9 for a sheet that size. I think it is 1.2mm thick.

B&Q rip you of for stuff like that! What are you going to use 0.5mmm for? Wrapping christmas presents?

I'm in Doncaster, cheers for the tip.

I was looking as we happened to be in there getting some paint. I expected it to be more expensive, but not that expensive. I am just fiddling about with my welder to see how I get on with thin steel :)

Your best to find your local metal merchant. B&Q etc are a rip off when it comes to being a metal supplier. Your just paying for the "convenience".

At work we work per kg. Steel at the moment is around 50p a kg.
1m x .5m x .5mm is approx 2kgs. £1 in English money! lol *happy*

What ya wanna do mate is find a steel stockholders close to where you live and casually walk into the yard on their lunch break. Most of the time the workers there will sort ya a sheet out for less than a fiver. Well??? they do by me. *happy*
