Right, engine's in and running, goes to engage gear, wont, tries reverse, crunch.

Wound the big nut off, no difference

The only thing changed has been the primary gear endfloat. So would you agree that the primary gear is pinching up?

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Sounds like the only plausable explanation.

Is it a new plate? Can you start the engine whilst in gear with clutch down? I had a similar problem on a new plate before.

Either pinched primary or pressure plate. See my previous thread

Pulled the flywheel and fitted an old c washer to open up the clearance a little. I originaly set the primary clearance at bottom limit. However after doing all that, starting it up and the gears engaging, i put the return spring back on and the problem returned.

After fiddling with the adjustment, Further investigation found the slave piston bottoming out !?!?!?!

All I have done is taken the engine apart, and put it back together again, everything is exactly the same as it was before.

So with the use of a rose joint conical spacer between the piston and the push rod, I now have a working clutch.

I think I really need a new master cylinder. I will look at replacing it with the older one which suposedly has a larger piston?

the larger piston will mean less travel, isnt that the opposite of what you need?

larger master cylinder will move more fluid for the same pedal travel, but increase the force required on the pedal itself *wink*

Thing is, there was nothing wrong before i took the engine apart, I haved not done anything with the clutch or flywheel. The flywheel, pressure plate and release bearing have 1000 miles on them if that, the plunger, arm and friction plate have 3000 miles on them. Same thrust bearings.

I did relap the flywheel in, which could acount for a little

might have a bit of trapped air in the system, i am sure you have done this, but give it a good bleed. I suspect imo if you don't have any leaks it won't be your master or slave cylinder as you have not touched these. I am sure it will be something simple, like it always it but we always miss it lol

I am having the same problem with my clutch. I'm going for a new master cyclinder. I have tried spacing the slave and bleeding. The bite is still near the floor!
