Has this happened to anyone else?

They have brown corrosion marks, like ive dripped a shitty teabag over them

They have only been on the car for about 3 months too.

Not pleased

Yes yes yes yes yes, mine is the same! After only a year on the car too, I didn't put them on as they were put on my the guy that painted my car and he said he noticed they were only plated. I'm not so sure, I buffed mine up without going through any kind of plate and they came up ok too.

probably just cheapo ones, not saying youve all bought cheapo ones but the mini suppliers have bought cheapo ones.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

haha, true true.

Joey, I did have a rusting stainless front bumper too. I bought it off those minisport cunts so it was to be expected. It was only fitted for a couple of months and had speckles of rust on it. Fortuntely I later wrapped my car around a trailer jockey wheel and that was the end of that bumper

My so-called s/s bumpers are also rusting. Got them from Minispares about 18 months ago. The chrome headlamp rings I got at the same time are not great either :-

thats where these are from too, the fit is apalling eswll, scratched my pait putting them on, but only myself to blame for that really. will email them now and see what the responce is...

I bet all the major part providers buy the non gen stainless bumpers from the same (probably chinese) supplier.

That'll be that stainable steel.

Are these the genuine rover bumpers? do they have the genuine rover hologram seal on the underside?

there are different grades of stainless steel available, i belive a most of the low to mid grades are magnetic to some degree, however im no metalagist.
i do know that its possible to cross contaminate stainless if you linish/polish it with a disk/mop thats been used on mild steel.
i used to make rollsroyce bumpers *hehe!*

I've come across this in the past, with the BOC I've reverted to fitting chepo chrome bumpers and replacing them each year.

As joey points out it's not your usual rust, more like tea stains here and there. Sprok is also right, they are the cheapo ones that seem to do this and if you can get them on without scratching the car you deserve a medal! Again I didn't fit mine but the guy who did says looking at them from behind he felt they were only plated mild steel. So to recap, it's best to buy the genuine article.

P.S. I also sparked my paint with the grinder and the previous owner did a good job on the windscreen as well!

stowmaket suffolk

yes there is stainless and there is stainless, its all to do with the amount of crome in the steel, if there are cheep ones then there wont be alot thats why they will rust at some point.

have the same problem with my stainlees forceps for fishing, the cheep ones rust quickly but i got some proper surgical stainless ones and guess what they dont.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

The level of Chrome is important, but Nickel is the key.You need 8% nickel to avoid rusting.Last year nickel prices went sky-high,so guess what the manufacturers did-cut the nickel,so bits rust.

Depends what grade it is, 430 stainless will rust in time, and is magnetic.
