Well I've been working on Minis for nearly 20 years and I can still fook up.

After putting the engine back together and getting it started I noticed a small pool of oil under the car the next morning. After much scratching of head I realised that I had forgotten the small oil seal that fits behind the O/S diff output plate; the O-seal that fits around the selector spring.

TWAT. still 40 mins later and it's all fixed.

Oh... I didn't know there was a seal there, I thought it was sealed by the gasket. Is this the copper ring jobie?

Not copper, just a rubber 'O'-ring. I hope!

mate your not the only one to do some thing like that, even worse is when you get all worked up and worried that you have left a seal out, so you strip down to replace it only to find you had used the right seal in the first place!!!

I fitted the engine in the car the week end before last. As I was putting the hoist away, i noticed an o ring sat on the frame of the hoist. It looked very much the right size o ring for the oil pickup pipe.

Engine runs fine without it. Its probably a good job that I use a thin smear of Loctite RTV on all gaskest. That would have been a royal pain in the arse

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I put my transfer case on a while ago and it was a bit tricky with the timken idler as the shaft is a tight fit in the case. I was torquing things down when I heard a bit of a crack when the case snapped into place. It all truns over smoothly when I turn it over but I have a paranoia that I have damaged the bearing on the 1st motion shaft. So it will be coming appart this week! I don't want any mess ups!

My self and Gary had this a couple of months ago, IT was -2 in the garrage we where puting a 998 together on a plastic bin ( I not joking). We had the hole lot in and running when we noticed a rather large pool of oil under tthe car,
turned we neglcted to put in the half moon seal in when puting the gearbox back on. We where so pissed we even said Tiffle Diffle and ho be god, when we figured it out, Ah well you live an learn as they say.
