Hi im new the the turbo mini scene, and i was wondering is makeing a turbo mini engine as simple as just bolting on the turbo and going?

ive seen a T2-T3 turbo forsale on the manifold, but i think the T2 would be better as the lag wouldnt be too much would it?

ok thats all for now

cheers

In theory, yes - you can bolt all the turbo bits to a non-turbo engine.

You also need a fuel pump / lines that are suitable.

Read the FAQ / newbiw / beginner sections!

the t3 is quite usable and definately will work . the engine can be a 998 ,but to use a t3 you really want a 1275 or bigger ,especially if it has the bigger .36 turbine housing instead of the rarer .25 the metro came with originally , which reduces the lag and the rpm when boost starts .

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

i got a 1275 A+ will that make a difference? also what kind of power would a 1275 with a different cam and S/C drop gears produce with either a T3 or a T2?

Whilst you can it theory, in practice it might not last that long.

You can have any two of the following, cheap, power or reliability but you can't have all three.

You will make between 45 and 200 hp.

Well I bolted a turbo straight on to my 70,000 mile engine and it's still going strong at nearly 10psi, 5000 miles later.

As long as you're not to greedy with power/boost and you're engine is in godd condition, it's no problem. On of the reasons I did it was to disprove the theory that engines just blow up when turbo'd.

Didn't you change the head to lower the compression ratio at the same time?

i would have thought changing the head/cr will have been advantageous, but not essential

Have you actually read any of the FAQ and Beginners Tech sections? As a lot of your questions will be answered in there, and to be honest you won't get much help of many folk on here unless you are prepared to do some reading yourself. Once you have done this and come back with some more specific questions then you will get all the help you need.

As most people have said, the answer is YES. But it depends what you want. If you only want a low boost engine then most of the stock parts will suffice. Have a read about Wils 998 Turbo, . This is a standard 998 with a Turbo added.
