We have all seen pictures of modded heads before so I won't bore you with a picture of every angle.

Turbophil of this forum as many of you know grinds a few heads, for this season he has done me a bespoke head for my Challenge Metro. It needed it to be a certain specification due to the strict rules.

Phil has come up with this little gem, extactly to spec, chamber CC, shape, valve size etc. Even the exhaust and inlet guides are a different design for flow and heat absorbtion. The finish of the ports and chambers are as good as big name.

I have taken the task of finishing the head with it final skim, 11 stud drilling, valve lapping, paint and assembly.

I am very pleased with this head, another established forum member has seen it up close and it got it's approval.

He has showed his passion for getting it right, not just a "get it done and the grab money" attitude with lots of thought and reason for a particular angle or shape of grind.

Remember it is not only a cylinder head that wins races but I am sure we are heading the right direction with this one.

looks nice and smart

slightly OT, why do nearly all perfomance 940's i see be the early shape rather than the 'flat top' casting, is there any noticable difference between the 940 castings?

*edit* Jon, you love conrod bolts too then?

The shape in the pic is the later head matey, its the early ones that have the flat machined area near the thermostat housing.

According to Vizard the later ones with the cast in area have slightly better water cooling passages. In practise I don't think you'd tell the difference.

Why do I have the feeling that Phil's done something trick with either the guides, ports or chambers.

The ports are very good indeed and the chambers could be different to most turbo applications???..

Yes, Rob, not forgotten...
