Got a mild steel turbo adaptor plate, and want to weld it to a cast iron manifold.

I think Phil has done this when he put a T2 adaptor on his T3 manifold?

Ive tried Oxy Acetylene with mild steel rod but its not taking

A firend of the family suggested using chromium rods in the stick welder, but still doesnt think it will be 100% succesful

Anyone got any tips/advice?

Cheers

Joe

I'd try and bolt it up if you can, welding to cast isn't always that successful.

If you do try to weld it is nickel rods you want.

no way of bolting this unfortunately, its my mate ben's starion manifold, and theres just not enough meat around the existing outlet

i dont know much about welding anything other then steel so this is new territory for me really

a volvo forum recommended to a guy doing the same thing on an old 240 to use nickel rods in an arc welder, and get the casting cherry red prior to welding, then burying it in sand to cool overnight to prevent it cracking

but there were no posts after that, so i dont know if its duff advice or not?

i preheat the cast (not to the extent of cherry red tho!! ) and then weld it with a powerfull mig. my turbo manifold is cast iron and mild steel and it hasnt cracked. downpipe was made the same way and it was cast welded to stainless (yes, poor engineering i know)

Are the manifolds cast steel or cast iron? I remember reading somewhere on here that they were cast steel. Could be talking shit, mind
