Got a mild steel turbo adaptor plate, and want to weld it to a cast iron manifold.

I'd try and bolt it up if you can, welding to cast isn't always that successful.

a volvo forum recommended to a guy doing the same thing on an old 240 to use nickel rods in an arc welder, and get the casting cherry red prior to welding, then burying it in sand to cool overnight to prevent it cracking This works |

i know you can weld up cast with nickel as doodmeister repaired the chambers in my cylinder head with it, worked a treat! On 20th Oct, 2015 Tom Fenton said:

i preheat the cast (not to the extent of cherry red tho!! ) and then weld it with a powerfull mig. my turbo manifold is cast iron and mild steel and it hasnt cracked. downpipe was made the same way and it was cast welded to stainless (yes, poor engineering i know) Edited by evolotion on 10th Apr, 2009. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

yeah you've got to heat up cast stuff before you weld it. |

Are the manifolds cast steel or cast iron? I remember reading somewhere on here that they were cast steel. Could be talking shit, mind On 12th Nov, 2009 Paul S said:
