A couple of questions relating to lights:

Are reverse lights a legal requirement and if so when did they become legally require? I know they're not covered on the MoT & I know that the Clubby Estates never had them.

Also when did fog lamps become a requirement? and are they needed for a day light only MoT?

EDIT: If anyone can provide links to relevant legislation that would be great, as trying to find out what the law is in this country is a right pain.

Rear fog light is 1983, reversing lights are not an MOT testable item.

I dont know about the reverse lights but I do know it was 1980 for the fog light. I have a 1979 1100 Special that wasnt registered until 1980 and I got pulled up for it on my MOT I had to fit a fg light even though the car was never built with one. I think it was a couple of year later for side repeaters because they tried to pull me up for that when I did my removeable front but I get away with it. I hope that helps

Cool, looks like I don't need a fog.

Obviously won't need reverse for the MoT, but I'd like to stay within the law incase I get stopped.

All I know is that you people SHOULD use headlamps at daytime. I so miss this when I'm over. Especially in the south where the trees are hanging over the road making it pitch black at daytime.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

you dont need ANY lights for a daylight mot, i mean ANY! stupid IMHO but there we go.

basically if you do have them, they should be taped for the mot.

I might have to get a week on the mini and get it tested soon.

Your 1980 clubby does not need them

Fact when I imported my E30 325 ix it did not have side repeaters. The paperwork stated the car was built in 1987 after checking the big blue book all cars built after 1986 to be registered in the UK had to be fitted with side repeaters
