A proper straight edge does actually come with a certificate of calibration to tell you how straight it is! I know this as I have one.

I just use a sheet of glass and some engineers blue, not the most high tech solution but it works for me.

I'm a bit I broght a piece of 3"X2" steel bar to my local Head shop he skimed it on Cylinder head machine I reconed if it could machine a head flat enough then it would do same to said bar, IMO the trick is in how you store it. *wink*

Thats a good point really. Back in Astons they would never store a crank flat, it was always stood on end so it wouldnt bend. I believe Oselli do the same.
