The base coat will go matt when its dry - about 15 mins in decent temperature thats touch dry too, so you can wipe over it again with a tack rag if you want.
I seriously doubt it! |

Do a couple of colour coats, letting it dry or 'flashoff' inbetween, then the lacquer. Its pretty much impossible to get runs in the colour as you can dust it on, but as you know, be careful on the lacquer coats not to get runs Paul ive just told him that but i took up less bandwidth ,lol carl |

As paul said tom, the base will be touch try in a few mins and you can tack inbetween coats, you will find usually two coats and a drop(dust) .It will dont go over it when its still wet, but by the time youve cleaned the gun for lacquer then it will be dry anyway.

Paul I thought that the base would take alot longer to flash off with just thinners and no hardener? I was also under the impression that with doing 2k Paint and not using the hardener you needed to catch it just as it flashed off before putting on a lacquer or leave it 24hrs / or bake? Is this a bit of a bad case of chinese whispers? I know when I painted my car I did 2k with thinnners and no hardener then polished out my orange peel. I never did put a laquer on it. Whats the best way to do it to get a good finnish?

With direct gloss colour you use a hardener and no lacquer.
I seriously doubt it! |

Orange peel is down to how the paint is applied. The gun is to close to the job.

Cheers guys. The gun I used was a borrowed item from a friend. Once I get my welding done I am going to be in the market for my own gun. Any recommendations. It will be hardley ever used so nothing to steep. But I dont want a pile of crap that is going to make painting my car again even harder than it is? |

Depends how much you got to paint, I prefer using both gravity and suction fed.

It's not the paint in the paint pot, its the paint in the gun pipes itself that goes off Lightweight racer coming soon. |

I normally get a ragged soaked in thinners and drape it over the pot, and leave the gun standing in a bucket/kettle of thinners if leaving for a long period. that way the thinners will keep the paint in the gun moist You can do that if your gun is an all metal construction, not all are! A mate scrapped two and a half grands worth or was it £25,000 worth of static gun through the same assumption Good thing it was his own kit. Best practice, wash your guns out before running in to watch strictly come dancing
