What specs would you guys go for if someone asked you to build them an engine?

Say you were looking at 130hp, 150 and 175 as options....

I'm just bored at work today!

Ditto, with nice 4 bold mains, fully worked crank, custom cams and a carefully selected turbo. Plus one of these new verto clutches people are making on here.

For 130bhp I would say.

Mildly modded head 35.7mm inlets
Cast pistons aiming for around 8.6:1 CPR
MG Metro/KC500/Kent 266 Cam
Cast Duplex Timing Setup
Grey clutch
Balanced bottom end
Intercooler
10-12psi
x-pin diff with 3.2FD
poss sc drops depending on usage of car

For 150bhp as above but

More head work
CPR around 8.2-8.4:1
Double grey clutch
Definately SC drops
Poss Avonbar PH2
Poss SC box depending on usage.
x-pin with 3.1/3.2FD
around 15psi

For 175bhp +

Fully Worked Head
18cc Forged Pistons (Omega/Accralite)
CPR between 8.0-8.4:1
Avonbar PH 2 Cam
Duplex Timing
Steel Flywheel
Double Grey/Double Verto
Balanced
SC Drops
SC Box
ATB Diff 2.9/3.1 Diff
Efficient Intercooler
18-20psi-ish

Well i would have said for free instead of 50 quid as i recently got given a K series engine :)

60k miles, weighs less than the A series, more power as standard, good fun to put in a mini i think. Far more cost effective than spending thousands of pounds on an engine that needs constant maintenance and a rebuild every ten minutes.

No point in having a classic if you go down that route.

K1100 16v head,
18cc forged pistons pistons
worked A+ rods
modern GT ball bearing tubo
Good ECU (there all the same)
strong gearbox and clutch

Put all that together properly and do a good job of mapping it and you should see over 240bhp at 18psi and torque from 4250rpm through to 7000rpm
