I'm building a suck through SC12 setup for my clubby.

I've been thinking about cams. I have a n/a MG metro cam which is well renound for being cock on, but I'm also considering one of Stuart Gurr's (Vmax Scart) new offerings.

I/we have another project in mind where the MG cam would also be good, so I'm open minded about buying another one.

This is what his site says:

"265, to suit up to 150 bhp power band 1000-6000 rpm, low emissions super power cam"

He says:

"short duration high lift and wide lobe centers"

He also recomends some 1.5 roller rockers to go with it. He also does one that is a bit more lairy, but I want to be able to use my car on the road...

Opinions please.

I have also been looking at these. My only concern is regarding taking the plunge without hearing feedback fro other people who have tried it. I am looking at the second option lairy onr for my track car.

From what I have read and from my own research there seem to be only a select short list of cams recommended for forced induction applications on an A series engine.

TBH i'm tempted by the VMAX one. The current engine won't be permenant.

I'll be building another one, so if it's not up to it then I can always put the MG one in there.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

it does not give you any timing figures ?

rule of thumb anything over 270 deg in force induction engines for the road makes it a pig to drive.

Thanks

I'll ask him for the timing figures.

The thing is there is a differance in the requirements of a cam for a turbo and one for an SC.

You can runa lot wilder cam in and SC setup. If Vmax have developed this cam specifically for SC puropses then I'd be tempted with it. There are plenty of turbo specific cams arouns, but not many SC ones I know of.

It sure would be nice to have some running reports of these cam's. Nic's custom turbo grind cam seems to produce the goods. I have no reason to believe that Stuart hasn't also designed a good SC cam.

Limited a bit by the exhaust ports, so a bit more duration and lift on the exhaust, with minimal overlap.

Mild=Mg Metro Cam 252/268
Moderate=PH2

I don't like the increased port inertia given by non-overlap high lift cams. One reason I don't like the SW5 or the piper 270 (all of which I've had). The kent range of N/A cams usually have a bit extra exhaust on them which minimises the shortcomings of the head. This is added to with boost....

There is then the SPi cam, but that has insufficient inlet duration for the job IMO.

I did a bloody great big breakdown of cam/valve sizes area/time and I stand by the MG/PH2 for a blower and that's it.

I would design a blower cam identical to the PH2, running S Sized valves.

Anyway, that's my 2p.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

PH2 being the Avonbar Phase 2?

From Vmax Website

Vmaxscart camshafts: For some time I have developing these cams to cover the specific requirements of a supercharged 'a' series engine - high lift, shorter duration, low overlap with very wide lobe centre angles. Like my supercharger kits these cams specially engineered to give you the best available performance. Sold outright in slot type oil pump drive.
265, to suit up to 150 bhp power band 1000-6000 rpm, low emissions super power cam
277, to suit 150 bhp plus 1800-7500 not so good in traffic 'open road' cam

Somebody has done all that work and still suck through. Looks pretty though.

^^^agreed! A couple of hours work and they could be a decent blow through setup. Wouldn't be all that difficult to get an IC in there too!
