Hi,

I'm new to turbo/supercharged minis - in fact i'm new to minis!! Although I did have a 850 back in the early 70's.

I'm thinking of supercharging my 1275 MPI, but I'm looking for some answers to questions that I have, and I hope someone will be kind enough to point me in the right direction.... *happy*

From reading the various posts - the current ECU will have to go, does anyone have any good recommendations? I hear MegaSquirt is a popular choice.

How do I calculate the maxium boost I can run?

What about the CR ratio? I'm not sure I want to modify the combustion chambers, so how do I calculate the decompression plate thickness?

I've got a MINI Cooper S M45 charger.

Can someone please help, i'm getting in a tizzy.

Confused old-chap Winston.

This thread is a useful read into supercharging the MPi and the potential problems:

I had an 850 in 1974 !!!!

As per the "Hello" thread, your problem is the factory MPI injection system (whether you go supercharger or turbo).

I think Sprocket on here is the only one who has done serious work with it but, basically it isn't "user" re-programmable so you are limited to small output increases within it's factory programmed acceptable limits.

Aftermarket ECUs are user programmable which open up all sorts of possibilities.

Megasquirt is the choice of a few of us (especially with the new code written by a guy called Jean in Canada especially for the 5 port head) but there are several others - VEMS, OMEX, Emerald to name just three - start searching the Efi section of the forum.

Oh, and my first Mini was also an 850 in 1974.......

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Actually I had my first A series, an 1100, in 1974.

I inherited my grandfathers 850 in 1977.

Getting worried there for a minute.

Started playing with A series in 1962, still at it and still learning, especially from all you younger, more informed enthusiasts.I continue to be amazed at the technical expertise that is freely available on this site.

Hmmm. I think I don't know how to use the search option correctly.

I know this is a big ask, but could anyone be so kind as to point me to the relevant pages?
