hi, its been a while since iv worked on the turbo project. the engine is a 1275 a+

im converting from verto to pre verto clutch setup. i know that the end bolt (crank) and locking washer are different between verto and pre verto, but are the stepped locking washer (locates flywheel to crank) the same? All i can find in the garage are verto ones, at a guess id say the two types use the same washer but want to check before i go any further.

also i have stupidy left the large oil shim that goes onto the smaller of the timing gears off (timing cover side). i have converted to duplex gears. is it essential that this is used? in the exploded engine diagram in my metro manual there isnt a shim, was just wondering if its required?

if so it means i have to strip the timing cover off again, only a few mins, but a pain in the arse!

help greatly apreciated. ta

1st question - can't remember

2nd question - it's not a shim, it's an oil thrower. It keeps the majority of oil away from the lip seal so it is less likely to leak. Also, because it's quite thick, your pulleys will be ever so slightly out of line without it. A duplex chain may throw the oil around a bit more so it may leak a bit more without it.

EDIT - just had a quick look at my Metro Haynes and it's in mine (pages 2A.8 and 2A.9). Maybe there is more than one manual for the Metro just like there is for the Mini.....

Strip it and put the oil trow ring in or you will have a lovely oil patch on your drive untill you do I know I tryed one with out once bad Idea,

and yes the bolt and locking key are different on pre verto much biger locking key and bolt with a big flat on the key to alow the locking tab to lock on.

I find the easiest way is to super glue the bolt to the end of one of my fingers.
