Hi,

I have a minispares stage 1 kit on my car which is a 1330, kent 296 cam and hif44 carb etc. There has been some suggestions that the manifold i have may restrict the engine. The one i have is in the first picture. What are the advantages of the second one shown with the longer 3rd pipe, also would it be even better to get a 3 in to one, which all join at the bottom.

What are the gains i would get for spending the extra money on a new manifold?

Thanks

Jon

the cooper freeflow manifold is best suited to the small bore engines; LCB is general use and the 3into1 is usually for race applications;

They are all good in the correct application, however i'd go for a maniflow LCB in this instance - don't be tempted with the cheaper alternatives

You should be spending your money on a different carb as well. What compression are you running?

A stage 1 kit has got nothing that suits a 296 cam. Not the inlet, not the needle, not the exhaust.

What head have you got?

Hi,

So ive pretty much got the wrong set up, nice. How would the setup i have effect the engine, would it make it down on power etc.

What carb should i be getting? I did ask around and many people said a hif44 would cope with this sort of engine spec. A webber might be better but i didnt want to have to cut the bulk head about?

What inlet should i have?

Also what manifold? maniflow LCB, can i get this from minispares?

Maniflow LCB, go to them direct or Minispares.
The HIF will cope but a weber would give more power.
Use the Maniflow 3.5" inlet and the Weber trumpets will go nicely through the standard hole in the bulkhead, you can use Pipercross filter socks

i am asuming you have setup your MJ?
and the weber will help with torque, that said there is nothing wrong with 1.75 su which many people use with a good k&n on the back. You could make some small modifications as in the yellow book.
if you did not want to cut the bulk head then paul's suggestion is a good idea, otherwise you will need a 5" inlet with a good maniflow exhaust system going no bigger than 1.75 for max torque.

Bike carbs. Weber power no cutting.

I had a 1330 with stage 3 head 286 kent scatter cam with a millenium lcb from mini spares. Stick with the hif44. I got 112bhp and a load of torque with this set up. Bloke at high tech motor sport rollin road who tuned it said for me not to stick my weber on as I'd lose bottom end drivability. *happy*

Hi,

So pretty much the first thing i definately need to change is my manifold. This is first on my list.

Philc, the mini went to slarks on friday and he identified a couple of problems, the main one is that my trigger wheel was moving so couldnt do anything with it.

Over the weekend i have mounted a new one, and it ran great. Its going back in the morning to hopefully once a for all be sorted out.

Will post up the results then, am looking forward to driving it after 18 months.

Cheers

Jon

is this one of sc's trigger wheel, as i had the same problem, i am also aware that a few other people have had the same issue.

i would get the exhaust sorted if you have not already, you will be throwing good money away

Hi,

I have looked at the maniflow website and they seem to have a lot of exhaust manifolds on there. Could someone post up a link to the one that i need.

Also wouldnt most inlet manifolds be the same, how would one differ to the one i have?

Cheers

Jon

I had that type of LCB in the second picture, it broke at the welds within a year, unless your engine is really well braced. After I removed it I could see how poor quality it was, the 2-into-1 triangular collector was rougher inside than it was outside. CHeap but pants. Get a maniflow one.

What kind of head are you using?

i suspect you will need an lcb and buy maniflow better quality than the others.
