OT - using stalk controls in renault clio with a sony head unit

A lady I work with wants to fit a sony cd player in her clio, but wants to retain the use of the stalk controls on the steering wheel

The factory head unit has the usual 2 plugs and one small plug for the steering controls

Now the adapter lead for the stalk controls, has come, it has the iso - renault adapter plugs, and instead of the small plug to join the cars wiring harness, a 3.5mm jack that apparently (according to the chap it was bought off) should go into the back of the sony head unit?

Now the sony head unit doesnt have a 3.5mm jack hole in the back, and even if it did, how would this work as the plug from the stalk controls would still be disconnected?

Can any auto sparky types out they confirm if the supplier is talking tosh or not?

some sony head units (mainly old ones iirc) did have a jack plug for the rotary commander (joystick control)

you can get adapters. an alternative, is if the stereo can have an infra-red remote you can canabalise a remote and wire this to the switches on teh stalk, hide the transmitter somewhere discrete and bobs your aunties fanny.

lots of messing around though.
