After the headgasket going in the carpark at riv run i have started the repairs.
Started off the day by ordering my parts ready for 2moz. started stripping down the 106 ready for the head gasket to be replaced and doing cambelt at the same time. just pictures of what i did is some people are interested the headgasket failer was so so slight it took me 10 mins to find where it went lol.

Started off by taking the front bumper off to do a few deer damage repairs and to get to the rad mounting points to remove it, as you can see the coolent wasnt looking so great...

next i started stripping the anoying bits you have to remove to get get the head off easily

Next i jacked up the car so i had some more room to get the bottom pull off and get at the cambelt

Drained the oil out and removed the oil filter, luckally no coolent here

Once the engine mount was off and the cambelt covers were off i set about timing the engine up and getting the cambelt off.

Next was to undo the headbolts unplug the last few bits and bobs, remove the rockers and remove the head to inspect the gasket

to me it seems as though it started to go between 2 and 3 cought it just in time before it did anything major, there was only mix of oil in the coolent no coolent in with the oil.

enjoy paul.

Unless it's a camera artefact, from the 3rd and 4th photo back from the end, it looks like all four cylinders were failing (top left on photo of each one)

your bound to get head gasket problems running these hi performance machines.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

I suspect that is for valve clearance *wink*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Its clearance for the valve and the clean spots on the tops of the pistons are as a result of the fresh fuel/ air charge being drawn in. Petrol is a good cleaner you know *wink*

Looking again I have to agree as they are all identical and match the position of the (presumably inlet) valves in the head.

Strange design though - I wonder if the same head is used on something with slightly bigger bores.
