Right Gents,

She's now a runner and I'm working out all the gremlins.

Drives fine pulls much better with a new map, Brakes work in a straight line but need bedding in.

But after a few run's up and down the road ( private of course *wink* )
the temp went through the roof. so stopped and checked everything all seems good.

But on running it again it just kept climbing, to the point at which I said enough and stopped her again.

Now I've fitted a electric water pump and electric fan. which are working as planed.

Location:-

Fan came on when it should and did a good job.

Once stopped I checked the water level fine but its hot as. So temp gauge not lying.

Heater in the car working although not blowing what I would call hot.

So stopped the car and kept the water pump running to bring the temp down. which worked fine.

Decided to check the water flow from pump, so I pulled off the top left hand side of cylinder head pipe. And it fired out like a hose pipe. This feeds into the heater matrix all fine. Then pulled the other side off.
Thus:-

While running the pump again I noticed it firing water back up into the heater matrix from this side too...? So the system looks like its trying to feed the heater from both sides hence pressure locking itself.

So what have I done wrong.?

All I've done is replace the standard pump with a electric one. Same location. I have no thermostat in the system but the correct sleeve fitted.

So have a look gents and tell me what I’ve done wrong please.

Si

Heres a pic in the sun with her new boots on too.

In the garage......again!!

I think it just pulls water from the bottom hose and it rises up the heater pipe on its way to the pump, is it spinning the correct way? it could be pumping it toward the bottom hose hence your overheating problem

I've just taken the dog out for a walk, and the fresh air has cleared my retarded mind.

Its the pump location that I've changed.

E.g. I've placed it before the heater matrix return feed. So its forcing water into the old water pump location and also up the heater matrix pipe at the same time. Hence stopping the water from flowing completely through the system. God I'm thick..

Tomorrow it will be corrected and fingers crossed all should be well.

Lovely looking car, good luck withy the water pump sounds like you've sussed it.

I read years ago that putting the filter in the position you have it is detrimental to power as the air races through it at speed.

Yup, it's in Vizard's book. Better get a duct around that filter!

it may lose a couple of bhp as you say but it looks the dogs dangly bits and might look a bit pony with a duct

Yes your right guys. One is in the pipeline. I think its at about 70+ mph that the air starts to take an affect.

Just designing one which still allows some flow from the front but slows the air to a point that’s acceptable.

Also, Thanks Will/Ben for the starter. its one of the best upgrades I've done to the car. That combined with a lightweight battery. And a modern ignition system make the car a dream to start even with this high Cr engine.

Thanks

stowmaket suffolk

also chuck away the thermo sleeve and fit a 74 deg thermo in, as this helps reglate flow through the rad, with just a sleev the flow through the rad is to quick hence eventually she will over heat

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

I'm wiring in a voltage regulator so I can control the flow rate. E.g. slow it down. And will eventually stick a thermister on to it so it can be an active controller.

With regards to thermostats and electric pumps they don't get on to well together. Pump life can be seriously shortened with a thermostat in place.

Hence Craig Davies does an electric pump controller for their systems. And tell you to omit the thermostat from the system.

It's still getting really hot.... *angry*

I've just spent the morning trying to sort this bloody thing out.

So, I thought I'd start again.

New water pump fitted mechanical one to rule out the electric one. Latest cast impeller one from minispares.

Also larger pump pulley fitted to control speed of the pump.

New fanbelt
New Minispares 2 core rad.
Fitted mechanical fan to pump to.

So its all back to basics. No leaks to....!

But after about 5 mins of running it up the road and even with the internal heater matrix fan running to. it just climbs and climbs.

Water is flowing through the system as it should with no blockages. So what can it be..?

Can fuelling and ignition be that far out it would cause this problem. ( Running on Optimax with Suberblend )

I'm running a very basic map to be on the safe side. And fuelling wise is as per my old 45dcoe.

So any ideas gents.

This is the only thing stopping me from driving it round to the MOT station. I just need to get it sorted.

Si ( hot and bothered )

Do you mean show than go, not go than show, V?

overheating is strange. Not much help I know, but I've never seen a mini overheat with an MS 2 core fitted. So if water is pumping round then it must be making too much heat.

Water is defiantly pump through the systems. I have the burns to prove it.

Your right about the heat it must be fuelling/ignition timing.

I've never known it to do this before. But then again its the first time with this carb and MJ.

Timing seems bob on.

Head Gasket is from my old stock and is holding fine. No water oil mix.

Just changed the rad for a standard item which I know was good. And the thing still got hot.

Next I'm going to by pass the heater matrix to see if thats causing a restriction.

Then I'll remove the thermostat blank thingy.

So thats everything changed or removed.

And then I'm lost. *frown*

Well I'm stumped now.

Bypassed Heater matrix = still got hot.

Removed thermostat blanking thingy = still got hot.

So thats it, Changed or removed everything now. So Now I'm well and truley stumped..!
