new to this site and still unfamiliar with the SU.

Car will start and run on full choke. If i touch the throttle on full choke with RPMs under 3k rpm it will stall right away. If the RPMs are over 3k and I add throttle input under full choke it will rev just fine.

I took the dashpot off drained and cleaned it added new atf. Douched the vacum ports and fuel inlets with carb cleaner and then blew out with compressed air.

After I did that it will run on half choke and full choke, but dies if you touch the throttle.

Any help would be much appreciated.

as the choke move the jet down so making it run richer i would have thought about adjusting the mixture. what SU do you have?

ATF fluid is too thin in my experience, thinner oil in the dashpot will put in less fuel when you accellerate (contarary to popular belief)

put some 20w 50 in there and see what its like.

k i will do all these recomendations tonight and get back to you guys. Thanks a ton for the suggestions. I really dont want to have to tear down the carb.

I threw some carb cleaner/fuel injection cleaner in the tanks to see if that will help as well. Im and EFI turbo guy so again thansk for putting up with my newbie banter.

Hey phil get me a quote on the kit and shipping to the US zip code of 01752.
thanks

Took the car for a spin today to the local ice cream cruise night. Ran on full choke, no throttle input, then once over 3k rpm i could take the choke off as long as i kept it over 3k rpm and would boost and run normally to red line. but as soon as it would dip under 3 k it would want to die unless the choke was again pulled out

Have you checked you've got the correct fuel pressure? Static it should be at 3.5 PSI, then rise with boost to stay 3.5 PSI above boost pressure.

this thing still wont run correctly :( im at wits end rebuilt the carb. Ordering another kit from phil to see if the seals he has are different. Im at my whits end. Luckily an Englishman I work with has come over and we diagnosed that the car was leaking air. Rebuilt it and it still runs like crap.

Have you checked your fuel pressure? This is quite important.

joe, i might have been falling into this trap?

my std'ish road mini goes temprarily very rich when i floor it, hesitates, then pulls strongly again and the afr's steady out at about 12

i thought maybe the dashpot was flying up, stalling the inlet gases, and throwing too much fuel in?

ive been trying thicker oil (on 60wt now), and its not made a jot of difference?

also tried 2 springs, but now i think im strangling it?

how does less dampning, i.e. thinner oil give less fuel?

joey my understanding is ( i may be a little out)

the fuel is sucked out the jet due to the air flowing over it to some degree but mainly the pressure drop across the needle, if the dashpot piston is at the bottem of it travels when you nail it, it creates a restriction within the 'venturi' increasing the pressure difference and this pulls loads of fuel out the jet,

if a really thin oil is used the dashpot piston will rise fast and the pressure difference is reduced in a short amount of time therefore the amount of fuel being pulled out reduces as a result making the engine run lean

if a thicker oil is used the dashpot piston rises slowly and more fuel is sucked out for longer making the engine run rich,

the size of the jet/ needle sorts the fueling at a constant speed, its the thickness of the oil that trims the acceleration richness

waits to be shot down *tongue*
