Forgotten more than most ever know

My mate brought me a s/c box for rebuild and turns out the box comes with metro challenge gear set. Ii has some wear on laygear?s 1st gear but the worst thing is that the small end needle roller was totally scrap and the bearing surface of the laygear scuffed beyond any help.

Furthermore, this laygear small end bearing is of unknown size. Although everything else is A+ stuff, this particular needle bearing OD is smaller than A+ but bigger than A. The layshaft is A+.

AFAIK there is no suppliers in UK for the above gearset, nor parts. I am looking for a suitable needle bearing with outer race that would fit in the laygear and use pre A+ layshaft.

Does anyone have a spare laygear ? Naturally there is no evidence of the manufacturer ...

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

Jim's built a couple of these i believe. He got the parts from Jack Knight. As far as i can remeber they don't make these bits anymore, but still have some in stock .....

Jimster, I need the laygear unless I can find a suitable needle roller bearing with outer case to fit in the laygear and on the pre A+ layshaft. I have e-mailed JKD but so far no reply.

I?ll inform my mate about the gear set.
