Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

just connect up as per the mini with a mini stat (with a few holes drill in to act as bypass) mini stat housing, then connect that to the top of the rad, the L shaped hose with an extra takeoff between the bottom and the pump then the heat inline with the takeoff on the corner of the cyl head (hope you drilled this out before fitting the head) and the take off on the bottom hose.

to get better cooling though connect the heater back into the top hose rather than the bottom one. i WILL get some pics of this mod! lol! infact ill do it in a minute!

Not the block, the cylinder head. Have you drilled the heater take off out ? On the left hand side at the front.

head ideally needs to come off so you can get the swarf out but you may get away with just drilling it then flushing it with the water pump off and no connections on.

Well, debris will fall straight down in the block if this is done. Remember the eight holes at the front of the block/head. These are big enough for crap to pass.

metro didn't have the extra holes as it had a pretty huge radiator in comparison to the mini, plus the engine bay was a fair bit bigger

i guess it could be annoying having to take the head off to drill it out, but i would probably do it to be on the safe side

an alternative would be to maybe run a thermostat blanking sleeve if your not going to do the heater take off option, i haven't used one of these myself as my car keeps very cool (not turbo'ed at the minute but fairly tuned 1380)

well i've deciced theres no way im taking the head off or the motor out to drill a hole, so will this work , 2 core rad, samco t-piece hose on the bottom and top hose and run these to the heater

if your on about plumbing in your heater matrix you could get a later two piece thermostate housing off a mini as the bottom piece has an outlet for the heater. mine had one on it was a '93 1275 carb model

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

thats how mine is running, with the two piece thermostat housing. stays cool.. although i do have the wing mounted fan just incase the temp does creep up!

Go and buy one of those 'magnet on a car aerial' things. Drain off the cooling system.

Start to Drill the hole out as normal, use a vacuum nearby to such up the swarf initally. As you break into the waterway, keep stopping and vac-ing up the swarf. Once through, use the magnet to pick out the debris sitting inside the head. If you use a slow speed, it'll just drop down under the hole, rather than dissapearing all over the insides of the head.
