Although I ticked cones with uprated shocks and hi-los, I think it's worth pointing out that the bhillclimber has uprated doughnuts, but the roadcar has standard items. The Hillclimber also uses ARBs front and rear.

I'm running gaz coilovers front and rear, on modified brackets at the front, and turretted arches at the back. Standard huddersfield spring rates, which I THINK are 180lb front and 130lb rear.

I also clicked the same box as will, but also have uprated doughnuts, and rear ARB rose jointed etc.

One thing i'd like to know is why do people bother with coilovers all round? Is there actually a handling benefit over rubber cones?

I did it on mine as an experiement to see what they could be like, and as I was fitting a custom fuel tank in a dropped boot floor, so I wanted to ditch the rear frame.

I've found, that with a bit of setup and fiddling with damping rates, the handling is certainly on par with my previous well sorted cone/hilo setup, but the ride quality is much improved. I'm yet to mess around with spring rates yet, as it seems about right with what huds mini centre supplied.

that is quite interesting, only one person so far with coilovers, i have hear quite alot of bad things about them eg having to modify the brackets to get a good position for the coilover, poor drivability on the road and really bad in the wet.

thanks wil and jim for going into abit more depth with what you use i wasnt thinking about the arms ect. did you find a noticeable diffrence with the arbs? also jim why do you only use a rear arb not front as well?

I'll admit that most brackets you get do need a bit of modifying to work correctly. it looked like mine would have worked fairly well with the car at totally standard ride height, but on a lowered car, they just hit the subframe pretty badly.

As for road maners, it's definately a smoother ride, and I've not noticed any problems in the wet so far

I theory there should be as you've got a lot more control over the stiffness of the springs, the downside is that there's a bigger chance of fitting the wrong springs.

My blue clubman has cones, gas adjust shockers and standard doughnuts.

My black clubamn has hi-lows, new standard doughnuts and gas adjust shockers on the back. The front will match when I get round to rebuilding the subframe.

I've always thought cars with a different type of suspension at each end can feel a little unbalanced. that could of course be down to the setup needed to match two different suspension types.

I fitted thereplacement coil springs for my rubber doughnuts. The red ones that allow you to ride over curbs like F1 drivers, or so the add says.

I got the red ones supposedly the hardest of the lot from Huddersfield Mini spares.

What a load of crap They are the biggest waste of money I have had the missfortune of shelling out for I have had to jack the Hi-lo's up by almost an inch to stop the wheels hiting the arch on take off and as for cornering my mate swares the inside front wheel was lifting when he was following me *crying*
