Last weekend I installed an Audi TT intercooler in my Mini (Btw great fit behind grille of the mini, no mods needed, apart from using a Megajolt, distributor doesn't fit anymore).

I took the car for a test drive with no other modifications apart from the intercooler. Before the intercooler was installed the engine was running a standard boost pressure of 10psi. After the intercooler was installed the boost pressure was 8.5 psi.

The actuator measures pressure at the compressor housing. The boost gauge and megajolt are measuring pressure at the plenum.

Could this pressure drop be caused by the resistance of the intercooler and hoses?

Next to the pressure drop the engine was suddenly running rich (both on part throttle as well as on full, measured with wideband lambda gauge) at standard boost level. Before the intercooler was installed the mixture was fine at the same boost level.

I've reconnected the part throttle lean off valve (I blocked it off previously). AFter this mod the mixture was fine again (although still running a bit rich (11,5) on full boost).

Any ideas what could have caused these changes?

Thanks,

Nico

A drop of 1.5psi with the addition of an IC and all the hoses is about right.

You need to get the signal for the actuator from the plenum, should solve all your problems
