Hi,

While fitting a 998 back in a 1275 '92 shell, I had to convert to thermostat housing for the heater take off => one extra sandwich plate with the heater take off.

So I use the longer bolts.

Now the "funny" part of it is that for some reason, the longer bolts can't go down all the way (around 5 mm missing) even if I double checked that their extra lenght is that of the sandwich plate and no more.

The obvious solution would be to re tap the holes but I can only get metric tools ...

And I filled the holes with WD40 and cleaned thorougly (with a small drill that I turned by hand) but it won't go.

What is wrong with those holes ???

Check the thread on the longer bolts is not M8.

Without the sandwich plates, it would normally be studs fitted, not bolts.

Did you have studs previously ??

If so, often the thread length on the bottom of a stud is less than the depth of hole so what you had in before may never have gone to the bottom so the last few threads may just need cleaning - for which you will need an imperial tap, and a plug tap too, not a normal taper or second....

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

The longer bolts are off a metro. I didn't suspect they might be metric.
I'll have a look

Previously, I had bolts, not studs
