Just a thought, but if you're going to the effort of replacing the nuts, why not simply change everything to metric? M8 I guess is about the size, though it may need to be fine thread.

Chuckle, sorry. Old money always seems too complicated though. Is a 3/8" spanner bigger or smaller than 11/32, etc.

5/16 had a bigger core dia so there for is a stronger bolt , stick with imperial, |
