Here are a few pics of one of the 80's Group A works Metros. These picutres along with loads of other were recently mailed to me.

I love the way Rover has used so many of their own products like ignition module, rad fan, pedal box etc, unlike todays touring cars where every thing is billet ally and carbon fibre, it even has a 20 quid mountny steering wheel.

Along with the pics are hand written set up papers from 1984 for Tim Harvey and Robin Brundle (Martin's brother) with boost pressures, suspension geometry and alsorts.

Looks like some kind of dry sump is going on and the oil cooler if FECKING HUGE in the boot area, bigger than a metro rad.

I always guessed the intercooler would be a Montego/Maestro turbo item but the pic cleary shows it is something else with proper ends caps, the rad has been shortened to fit it in.

Obviously these engines spent alot of time on a dyno, alot of effort has gone into the exhaust proving big is best.

They also do not used a standard plenum, more like a pipe straight into the carb mouth.

Hope you enjoy the pics.

JF.

Cool, I look forward to seeing them, I love old racing cars, they inspire me as 25 years on we can look at them thinking that we could make something simiar

Well obviously it did work, if enough oil is squirted into the right places it will have enough lube, they did used to win races!

Who can remember Marc de la matier's (something like that) in the mid nineties, that was dry sumpped and was a regular magazine car ans was succesfull in circuit racing.

Remember it is only a film of oil that needed to lube and with the backing of a massive motor company a new gearbox every few races is no big deal.

They were taken in 2005 at an auction I do believe..

It is pics of 2 cars, one is mint, the other looks "used"

The front suspension is very confusing with the ARB set up and it is on coil overs/trakspax all round.

Notice the works teams did'nt waste cash on ARP head bolts, always said new gen ones with the Y are good enough for the job.

Don't see how you can dry sump an A-series, as the gearbox would need to hold oil. How would you pump it around the gearbox, and engine and the dry system?!?! That aeroquip into the gearbox I reckon is a return from a breather, Maybe I'm wrong. We need more pictures.

You be holding alot of oil for no gain!

Looks good though, Would love more pictures.

Lightweight racer coming soon.

they were deffo dry sumped,

from what i have read the layshaft was pressure fed, and the rest was taken care of by the oil flung from the crank.
