Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Took it out for its first spin this year yesterday, thought i would give it a blast, fill it up, bit of country lane then home and to the pub.

Hmm, well drive faultless to the petrol station, about 6 miles for some fresh optimax.

Started it up after filling it up and immediately thought it didnt sound clean, but it is fairly lumpy at idle.

Drove off and it cut between 3 and 4 cylinders, kept going for maybe 2 miles looping back towards home hoping it would clear until it dropped to 2, then 1 then nothing. dead.

Bonnet off, look round etc and couldnt see anything obvious. So let it cool off, although not that hot, and tried again, ran on 4, then 5 seconds later 3, 2 etc and died. So thought no fuel getting through, whipped it off just before the carb, plenty.

It was knocking on and i had no tools so called the breakdown just so that i would get home reasonable.

He came and looked, we had the float chamber tops off, nice and clean etc. It runs 2 coils so tried the spare (they fitted the spare as its an ex race car - no idea why!) still no difference. Had now gone from running for 10 seconds to not running at all.

we whipped the plugs out, no spark at all!!! bugger. I think its got a pertronix ignitor in it so guessing thats goosed.

Tried it this morning with some new plugs, no spark at all. power to the coil is ok.

All in all a bit of a pisser! fork out about £100 for a new ignitor thing, may as well do rotor, cap and coil and its done with.

Ah well! just seemed a conincidence it did it immediately after filling up with fuel, hence thinking it was fuel, but no spark is no spark!

want it nic?

its an mgoc spec car with 93bhp so the cam makes the idle lumpy, nothing will solve that i dont think.

Might have the engine out to tidy up the engine bay, although remember what a pain it was last time i took one out, maybe not!
