I've been doing a bit of consideration into reasonable timescales in the last couple of days and I've come to the conclusion I'm not going to have the time or money to get the turbo running for this years shows.

Turning my attention to other options, I've decided to spend a bit of time sorting out The State instead. I don't want to spend too much time on it or cash for that matter as I don't want to be too distracted from the turbo project.

Its currently running full trim, rusty back doors and a sh*t paint job. Engine wise its an ex cooper short motor with an unknown cam (it had originally been supplied by a local shop as a 286 spec but turned out to be much more aggresive), MED head, HIF44 with 3" trumpet, aldon dizzy and electronic ignition all sitting on a standard box with a 3.6 diff. The flywheel is a minispares ultralight set-up.

The thoughts are that I spend some time playing about with the engine (poss web 45?), loose some weight stripping it down and finally giving it some new back doors and a coat of paint. I'd have ot say the budget would have to be limited to £250-300 max including the MOT which ran out in Nov last year.

I have to be honest and say I'm not sure if I want to paint it though - I quite like the look as it is - the only possitive is that if I painted it, I would be more likley to use it more often

your thoughts gents?

Rob

That's a good colour. My clubman used to be that colour. Keep it, but make it fast

Mike - Mine will be up for sale at the end of the summer...

I like the soft focus photographs, very atmospheric, or was the workshop just in the clouds as usual?!

You know my views on it, if you're going to paint it then do it right (as the master has taught you) or else leave it looking like a pile of poo and make it go very fast (just not as fast as me though...)

Looking poo and going fast is always a good option. My clubman looks poo, so is half way there...

looking like a pile of crap is ok but I don't want to attract too much attention from the plod - there are a few issues i'd rather not have to discuss!

well, bit of an update

I think I'm going to tidy up the hidden bits such as the engine bay, strip out and paint the interior etc and just leave the outside 'rough'.

I've got hold of a 45 on a maniflow inlet which would be on long term loan. The carb was originally in this car when the last engine was still in it (there is a bit of history to this car!) Picking it up tonight so will get it on the car at the weekend and see how it goes!

Paul, the engine is 1275cc - the short motor originally came out of a cooper I broke a year or so ago
