Lovely build! Should you wish to shed more pounds I think the only really easy route left is to go for one of the MS 5port alloy heads...8.5Kg saved in the blink of an eye.

I also consider the oil cooler to be a personal road / endurance accessory, so these 1.5Kgs do not count! 😎

I am not two sure on the Alloy heads at the min, as I bet they are spot on, on a 1293 fast road/ 120 bhp engine, I think one bad day and it would be adding it the the stack I have here of gifts to the speed gods!

As for the cooler, I never always had one but when I started seeing oil temps of 120c I had this one made, it's the smallest I could go and keeps the oil temp down so I would say it's a most have tbh.

I would say I have saved all the big kg savings In all the obvious places and in the not so obvious places.

Kind regards simon

To be honest, you're gonna have to add 50kg to the final figure to account for the balls you have driving this mental thing!

Great to see it back together bud

Lol 😝 good to see your back in the game buddy!!

Come on it's not that bad, you have had a lift in it when it was running as it should, it was not that bad.

Maybe a bit different now mind 😂😂

Many old school turbo engines successfully run alloy heads on cast iron blocks, ford cossie, lancia integrale. More modern stuff is all alloy.

If anything the better cooling provided by an alloy head makes it less detonation prone.

Minispares would be wise to sponsor one of these for you to try, hard to beat the exposure generated by this quality build😉

Btw wise decision on the oil cooler, 120C is less than optimal. What I meant to say is I doubt a sub 15 sec drag run will get your oil temp above 90C without a cooler....that's why the weight doesn't count.

I know what you mean, but I like taking it out for normal drives to the shops and so on.

As if it was just for the 1/4mile I could lose loads of kgs

As I have been called out by Jonny 🤣

Well what’s been happening in mk1 world, the car has taken a bit of a back seat in the last months as I have been busy with work.

But I still have been chipping away at it.

Here is some pics.

So after pissing about for days trying to work out where my oil leak was! It turned out to be the 1/2 moon seal 😑

So Engine out, and sort it out. Not the end of the world but just a pain.

The picture of the engine on the scales that’s engine, turbo, carb, oil and some water in the block. Not bad but I think it could be lots lighter, but that can wait for a wile to get looked at.

Also I have been going over all the bits that was fitted to the car and mover weight has been removed here and there.

Off things like-
Headlights
Speedo
Dump valve
Engine
Starter motor
Dash

I will dig my scales out this weekend and pop it on and get an up to date weight I think.

Also I plan ATM to get it to brooklands as for me I have always classed it as the first show of the year.

Jobs left for the MOT-
Fit number plate on the front
Fit wiper
Fit washer bottle
Fit inside mirror

Thanks for looking

Simon

What’s the bit of hose between plugs 2 and 3?

The lightening of your oil filter head is very neat, must’ve taken a while!

Possible turbo water feed, looks like it runs around past the water pump to the back of the block

Isn’t that the water hose that goes from the bottom hose to the expansion tank?

Looking good Si.
