Do I try and remove the blackening on the tail fo the crank before fitting the primary gear?

My MED crank was black, it didn't seem to affect how the primary gear fitted and when I lapped my flywheel on it come off the taper pretty quickly so seems quite thin. I left it on but don't know if that was right to do? On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

MEDs turbo cranks are grey, anything else is black, Just 2 different treatments
I seriously doubt it! |

yes remove it with brillo pads or scotchbright,,its cyanide residue, |
