Whats the emmisions for a 96 spi?

What do you guys feel about running a 7 or 8 port possibly a k head with fast road cams yet still being able to pass an mot, and just as important being a nice drivable daily?

my emmisions would pass the MOT no problem, and thats without a cat. I don't think you'll have any problems

dunno what my emissions are (not part of the mot)

John K has stated a few times that his 16valver would pass the emissions tests no probs.

i guess a 7 port could be an issue due to their big ports.

Mine flew through the emissions. I think the MOT tester was quite suprised how good they were! lol

our 93 SPI 16v passed the emmisions no trouble,

When I ran a 5 port 1380 on a 300°deg scatter cam 1.5 rockers, weber 45 etc it passed the emmsions test with ease - running proper ignition management, no tricks, no changing jets, no drama. With injection its even easier to make the motor behave at idle.

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

The emissions limits for the SPi, are 0.3%CO max fast idle, 200ppm HC max fast idle, and 0.98 min 1.06 max lambda. Natural idle test is 0.5% CO. It needs to pass all, otherwise its a fail.

The problem is, if the tester does the propper test for an injection engine or chassis number, if there is no cat, it will fail on CO, and most likely HC too. You may be able to lean it off to get the CO down and the HC may drop a little as well, but it will then likely fail on high lambda. The Mini emissions limits are blessed with wider limits for Lambda, which makes it maybe just a little easier to try and get it to pass the pukka test without a cat, but its a very narrow band.

best option is to fit a cat or, use an older block with an engine number that denotes carb rather than injection.

There are of course, other ways or other MOT testers *wink*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
