Hmm, well there was no high speed chase or big crashes, but it was definitely the police who spotted me!

My father was driving my mini and me back home as I just got it MOT'd, which it passed. We were driving back along and noticed some speed check rozzers in a side road, and of course clocked the mini (which was will within the limit). They didn't come after us or seem concerned, so i'm not sure what to think.

My father has fully comp insurance on another car so insurance is not an issue. The MOT had been completed just 20 minutes before we passed the policemen, so hopefully that wont be an issue either. The only thing they can get me on if anything, is tax.

Now i'm wondering, is travelling from the MOT centre just to get it home enough of an excuse to get away without tax? Or am i banged to rights?

As you can't get tax without an MOT and garages won't issue tax, you are fine to travel home and to the gareage for the purpose of an MOT.

As you weren't stopped it's unlikely that they even noticed you had no tax.

Also tax offences seem to be the DVLAs job these days using numberplate recognition, so you can sleep well tonight with no worries of any problems.

You should be fine. You have the MOT certificate to prove you are on your way home from an MOT test. *wink*

i had this last month i had tax and insurance but no mot, it passed that evening but the computer issuing the certifacate went down i was told as it passed i was still good to drive, so i went to work in it that night, (2.5 miles) i had cops on me after about 800 metres lol they followed me all the way to work and stopped me there did radio check all but mot came back good, they had to assist at a local warehouse fire and had to leave, he said all i would have got was a producer.. he semed happy with it passing and the excuse i gave (genuine lol)

i would not worry

also id check ur dads insurance small print... almost all state the car being driven must be insured by its owner for your dads insurance to cover him on it 3rd party, the only insurance i know off where this doesnt apply is trade insurance

im not picking fault just better to be on the safe side and know for sure *wink* we have pulled under them circumstances..

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

Tax isnt a police matter anyway. But you do get some retard cops who will report you for it if spotted.

But as above, its perfectly lagal to drive to and from a pre-arranged MOT test ( you do need to have insurance though )

its up to the dvla if they want to prosecute, usually if you back date it to the beginning of the month your ok, you were perfectly legal in what you did, as long as your dad was covered to drive.

I'm sure this is an old wives tale. It makes no sense, you could only claim on one policy, claiming on two is fraud. Of course it likely that the other car will have insurance as generally other cars you drive will be road legal.

It's certinally not stipulated in my insurance, quite the opposite in fact. It says you can drive the other car with the owners permission if: 1) there is no other insurance in force that covers the same claim.

Happy to be proved otherwise.

Additionally, the requirement to have an MOT to validate the insurance is not always true. Standard policies generally stipulate that the car is roadworthy, but dosen't specify an MOT. Classic policies tend to specify MOTs mind.

Yes, as with what Wil was saying, my father tells me that his insurance small print says exactly the same thing for cover on other cars; you can drive them with the owners permission.

Insurance is to do with the person, not the car.

Personally I wouldnt trust those 3rd party extensions...

And dont forget, with ANPR and their stupid database. If they stop you, and think you have no insurance, as could easily happen using a 3rd party extension...they will steal your car until you can prove you have insurance. You will then cover all tow and storage costs extorted from you.

And even your own insurance isnt on ther person.

If someone steals your car, cand crashes. guess who everyone claims off, despite the driver having no insurance.

Yes, you the totally innocent party.

Insurance is nothing but a legalised scam run in cahoots with the dirty corrupt government.

I was watching traffic cops on dave earlier, and a very similar incident was covered. A car was being driven back from an MOT where it had passed and was not taxed, as well the as the owner having no insurance on the car, but the owner was not driving.

The police phone the owner and start spinning some yarn which i found hilarious: "you do realise, if you were driving the car, we would have had to have taken it away from you" Well no fucking shit, that's why the owner wasn't driving the car, and someone else was. So of course the police drive away making pathetic comment like "can't believe that car passed its MOT".

So obviously, the police knew they had no ground to stand on, which is why they had to walk away.

I have a feeling the insurance issue is down to the individual policy provider. Better to ask than face 6 points.
