I got my tax disc yesterday and a little flyer (separately) that says if you've bought your tax disc online and it doesn't arrive by the end of the month, they give you five days that you can drive around without displaying it.

When my pride and joy got totaled from a rear end shunt in 2007 the police saw that it was not displaying the correct, tax but the vehicle check showed that the car had been taxed the day before. To reinforce this I showed a print out of the confirmation page on the DVLA web site. The officer said he did not need to see it as the check showed the car had valid road tax inforce. Own the day
