hey,
i know ive asked this question before but i just cant get my head round this,
the boost guage wont show any positive pressure until your putting the engine under load, i.e on the road, so reving it in your garage isnt going to give boost, i fitted i dump valve yesturday, and when i rev the engine the piston of the valve closes until vacuum stabalizes then re opens, i get this.

but i cant understand why, i cant see the actuator opening the wastgate via rod, i cant hear that distinctive whistle other than the wheering out the exhaust, so basicly im confused although.... i have a theory... which is, as the engine is not under load the engine can suck in as much air as it wants there not creating that forced induction because the engine isnt struggling against anything. can anyone explain all this to me and put me out my misery,im sorry to ask dumb questions but im new to the turbo and i dont want to get to the end of the road on the cars first outing since being built and have to push it back or have it in the garage any longer lol.

sorry again guys.
thanks.

The wategate wont move while at under no load.

The wastegate opens when it senses a pre-set boost pressure. This pressure overcomes the pressure of the diaphram/spring inside the wastegate actuator and pushes/pulls the rod to open the wastegate.

As you are under no load, you are not creating ay/enough boost to reach the pre-set limit of the actuator. There for you will not see it operating.

From what i can make out of your OP you have nothing to worry about.

thanks again.

p.s

does the fact that im using a points diz mean its goin to have a bit less performance but as long as the timing is right wont cuause damage? i will get a new one, when i can afford it lol. and what would be the safest maximum psi for a standard engine?

thanks again .

In the garage......again!!

bearing in mind the metro as standard had a two stage boost system at 4psi then 8psi up the rev range, anywhere between this should be ok, just make sure its serviced really well and regular and it will give you years of work.

133.5 bhp 123 lb torque 116mph @6640rpm 9.5psi
Shakespear RWYB 14.995 91.83mph
