Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has experience of these products, I am particularly interested in how well the DL1 datalogger interfaces and logs data from the DASH2 and any engine ECU which is connected.

Or any other similar product like the AIM range of dashs / loggers

These products are all pretty expensive so I would need a to have a good degree of confidence that they work well and integrate with ECU's correctly.

Cheers

Cheers Jimster,

So just to ask a few more questions, you can input analogue channels both into the Dash2 and the DL1, does the DL1 log all analogue channels successfully from the dash as well without issues.

Also I notice the analogue inputs are 0 - 12v which is unusual as most sensors are 0 - 5v, can the inputs be 'rescaled' to take a 0 -5v input?

Cheers

Yes thats correct, you can use all the inputs on the DL1 and Dash2, and display and log all of them.

You can rescale any channel, that's the main reason I went for it, it means you can use any sensors, and your not forced into using there sensors. We are using the same setups on the miglia's and sevens too.

Cheers,

Sorry I don't mean the fact that you can put a new calibration in for a new sensor of a different type but the fact that the Race Tech analogue inputs are expecting a signal of up to 12 volts.

The Race Tech loggers are 12 bit (4096 bytes) if you feed a 0 - 5v signal in you only use 1707 bytes maximum (5/12 of 4096) and therefore have less than half of the possible resolution that the system can offer.

Whereas if you could make (re-scale) the analogue input 0 - 5 volts (as almost all other loggers are) you double the resolution for no extra cost.

The Race Tech equipment is one of the few to offer 12 bit resolution so it seems a shame not to use it if this is the case.

On a lot of sensors this doesn't matter but on some it makes the data look 'steppy' (aliased)

Do you 0 - 5 volt output sensors with yours?

Have you got a sample of some data I could look at in Excel, in say .csv or .txt format from your collected data. Obviously not any sensitive data from your race cars but just something that gives me an idea of the collected data.

I have also asked on the RT forum.

Do you feed your ECU data into the DL1 and log that as well (RS232 / Can)? - Just wondered how robust or successful that was

Sorry for the essay.

Cheers

I see what your saying, but for me the resolution is fine enough.

I use both 5v and 12v sensors. I am going to order my ECU interface tomorrow, (serial) should be hand to log injector times etc.

Drop me an email Jim at sheepspeed dot com, tell me what data you need, and I'll send you some files over

Cheers Jim, I will do that.

I notice from looking at your website that you use Emerald K3 which is the ECU I am considering using as well in this setup.

Looking at the AIM website (They do the MXL Strada dashs) they list the Emerald serial protocol as follows:

ECU_1 K3_RPM
ECU_2 K3_SPEED
ECU_3 K3_OILPRESS
ECU_4 K3_OILTEMP
ECU_5 K3_ECT
ECU_6 K3_FUEL PRESS
ECU_7 K3_BATTVOLT
ECU_8 K3_TPS
ECU_9 K3_MAP
ECU_10 K3_AIRCHARGETEMP
ECU_11 K3_LAMBDA
ECU_12 K3_FUELTEMP
ECU_13 K3_EXHTEMP
ECU_14 K3_GEAR
ECU_15 K3_ERRORFLAG

I guess this might not be a complete listing of the channels available but just the ones they choose to import from the K3.

Do you know if they export injector pulse width, timing details etc...

Do you have a list of the channels that are exported from the K3 to the DL1? I have looked but can't find anything listed.

Sorry for so many questions but I just want to research before I take the jump.

Cheers

The only difference the 0-12v gives...means the Dash2 system is more versatile.

When you buy the package of DL1 and Dash2, they do discount it, although the pairing is then locked together somehow.

I recently bought a used Dash2 to use on my car. Certainly seems to be very good quality, and damn those LED's are bright ( adjustable )

Although I tried re-flashing the firmware and killed it lol

I'll be getting it back from them soon, along with the CAN adaptor for use with my DTA.

I'd like the DL1 too, but cant justify its cost when I already have their AX-22

I jsut wasnt confident the MXL would display what I wanted....as wasnt even sure how many info screens were available with it. Looking at the specs and computer software it would seem like only one, although I find that hard to believe.

The Dash2 has 4 or 5 user configurable screens

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

the Channels from the K3 are:
engine speed
TPS
manifold pressure
ambient temp
ign adv
afr
afr target
battery voltage
primary inj time
secondary inj time
coil on time
air temp
coolant temp
aux temp
auhaust gas temp

Speaking to carl at emerald there is a lot more which the ecu outputs, wheel speed etc and only needs a software tweak on the ecu adapter to see more.

Hope that helps buddy

Cheers Jim thats most useful,

The more I look at the K3 hardware and similarly priced ECU's (Indeed some higher priced) the more I like the look of the K3. Particularly with the number of spare analogue channels and the fact that it takes 4 wheel speed inputs which is pretty well unheard of at this price range.

I have sent you an email regarding the data

Cheers
