So i've read a few threads, i.e. one by rod s and one by fabz, but I'm still confused why i need to machine the lugs?

Can some explain in simpleton terms so i can understand?

I have a double grey with an ap paddle sintered plate.

cheers in advance.

If you read back the links on my thread to Turbodave (I think) there is a better explanation but, basically the "spring" needs to be flat for maximum grip.

Machining the lugs is the only way to get the spring flat.

That sums it up perfetly. I discovered many years ago that the Grey Diaphram for whatever reason does not sit flat when installed on standard length lugs.
23.5mm was what worked for me on the first, and subsequent clutches, so that's what I suggested others did.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.
