Why, Dave?

If you had a Bini Blower and the choice of all sorts of cams, running about 12.5 PSI max (that's what I get with my pulleys) what would you choose? My logic says that the 262/280 of the Ph2 would give me a performance of a 262 cam but with enough exhaust duration. The 276, I would have thought would give too much overlap (particularly with a blower) at low RPM. I have to choose soon and before I use a Ph2 like I have decided, I would like a good reason to go/not go with my choice.

Vmax's flagship uses a 276 though.....Help!

(My final configuration is going to take up some of the space of the dizzy, that's for sure now)

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Ive got a ph2 in dave and the idle is rock steady and very even. suprised me. running stock rockers though which will probably make a difference.

My sister is so fit I won't show anyone her picture

Lake District

My idle was always smooth with P2 and 1.5 rockers fitted.
Mate ran a Turbo engine, modified head, intercooler, 276 cam & 10psi. Made 132hp at the first Turbo Mini RR day.

Maybe i've got a bad grind!!!! For me, Idle is 900rpm. At 900rpm and 1.5 rockers, my ph2 idle is far from steady. LOL!!! It used to be just acceptable with the 1.25's mind.

Why should overlap be so critical on a blower? How much pressure is found in the Exhaust manifold of a 'blown' system? I'd be taking advantage of that and running an LCA more like in a nat-asp engine...
Hmmm. Now you have got me thinking. And my brain has just given up.

Nope, it's gone.

Maybe tomorrow.

Bugger.

I run a 276 timed in at 110deg. Seems to work very well, it is a 1380 however!! As for an oil pump i like the avonbar one, pricy but does a bloddy good job.

If referring to pg4 - I don't know or agree with that Stevie guy all/most of the time - but he claims to have tried a series of different cams and found best effect with the milder ones...
This is what i've suspected for a long time.

SC are a totally different score though!

Only a development will yeild results. Incidentally, I didn't see much of an increase in power from fitting 1.5 rockers - only a loss in drivability.
The 1.5 rockers are staying for my next project, but the MG metro cam is going to be used instead. Interestingly though, he mentions the swifty SW5 cam as what he used in Nov '94. I didn't think the SW5 had been out that long... Five, maybe six years at the most, but not much more. It's things like that that don't seem to add up for me with that guy.

Stu - Why not do what not many do, and experiment. Stick a MG metro cam in yours and see how it goes. As time goes by, try swappign it out for a 286 and see how it goes again (not makign any other changes).
It's not that hard to swap out a cam - and if you're still intending to do the swap on a 'mule' (used) engine, then i'd ust be inclined to pull the engine, push it onto it's front, and swap the cams over. Minimum fuss - instant results. When you've done this, you can build a real motor with your chosen cam - then play about with the cam timing...
A baseline has to be established - and those bini blowers will probably be a law to themselves at higher boost!

i have the avonbar figures but cant find the piper ones, does anyone have these figures

Avonbar told me in a email that they use 1.25's but 1.5's can be used i always though the more lift the better i guess not hey

I have decided to go with the Ph 2 as it is pretty much a 266 with longer exhaust timing and a tad shorter inlet. Not very much overlap. From what I can gather, it seems like the wisest choice. As the 276 causes rougher running in N/A engines, I would attribute this to the overlap. A 266 would be a good choice but it doesn't have enough exhaust (IMO). As they say, a supercharger loses its efficiency at high revs and this is especially true with the Bini Blower. So, something which tops out at about 6500 would be nice. That seems to point a big finger at the Ph2. Will try an old Auto cam I have kicking around. 232/240 I think.

Got to remember, reliability, reliability, reliability.........

cheers stu
