well,,, we dynoed the moke tonight & I`m happy in one sense, but totally bummed in another

plenty of grunt (more than i expected) But melted pistons/rings in the process

now i`m ordering some new forged pistons & a double grey clutch

*frown*

we didn`t get it up to full revs or full boost & it went pop & pushed great hoards of oil out the breathers *frown*

after literally months & months of stuffing around sorting silly little things & playing lap-top tune ups in the back yard & on the road, we drove it to the rolling road dyno tonight & it all went to shit in a matter of minutes

seems we have some drastic ign advance issues that may have caused the damage on the way to the dyno *frown*

140hp is all we got to with just under 10lbs of boost & only 5500rpms-ish with a drastically slipping clutch as it comes on boost... sad day *frown*

it is just the roady so i`m happy-ish

ah well,,, just thought i`d let you all know that i`m even more of a dork than you think i am

Ah,,, it`s my own silly fault really,,, i should have put it on a tilt tray to get it to the dyno,,, it`s just that it went soo dam hard i couldn`t help myself, dragging off WRXs at the traffic lights isn`t what i`d suggest anyone do with an un-tuned turbo twin cam moke *frown*

like i said,,, i`m a total dork & it`s all my own stupid fault

Thanks for this post. I've just finished the build of something else turbo with a mappable ECU, I will now be driving it EXTREMELY gingerly for as short a distance as poss to get a few miles on it before it goes to the RR for mapping......

Yeah Tom,,, don`t be tempted,,, i`ve just learnt a valuable lesson,,, stupid turbo engines don`t give you the same feedback as N/A motors do,,, & the stupid thing is that i allready knew that, but i still gave it a bit... The dam thing just cranked so well,,,, ah fark it!

i`m really p!$$ed now *smiley*

Fuck sake dude, who do you think I am, its certainly not the person you believe I am, get over it!! I am begining to think you have a complex disorder or something

I too am a dickhead and suffered engine failure, im sure there is some one out there having a laugh, infact I know there is some one out there having a good laugh, at my lowley 104bhp, mister supercharged, 15psi, 310 scatter cam, no intercooler, 180bhp............NOT!!!! You know who you are!

This sort of failure is why I set the ignition advance REAL conservative on Matty's engine, and I believe he hasnt been on a dyno tuning session yet, brave man *wink*

Its all shit, but they are Minis after all, they will bite your arse at some point one way or another*oh well*

Take the hit and move on.

Forgive me for being incredibly nosey, but I'm intrigued....

What was the fall out between you and the above mentioned person? (I know who you mean, it's a lovely car, but I highly doubted the 180bhp figure)

Colin your are spot on,
People seem to forget that the A series is Agricutural at best I mean the 1275 was designed to produce 50 odd HP not dubble that let alone tripple that. When I watch my race engines going around track I somtimes think how fantastic it is that a three bearing crank engine can sustain 8800 rpm gear changes for 25 + hours and only need bearings and rings to go do it all over again.

But with the same hand miss treat them just the smallest amount and the bite you hard I have the broken con rods a scrap cranks to prove it.

No mate, lol I set the start map when there was no intercooler, and set it CONSERVATIVE *hehe!*, I remember you tweeking it last year at Avon *wink* If it knocks, it neither mine nor your fault, the person in question has been told *hehe!*

Sprocket, it`s all cool mate, i`ve no problem with you mate,,, sorry i won`t carry on with it anymore, but yeah yopu`re right again, there are plenty of people who tend to like hearing other peoples missfortunes & i can`t understand their way of thinking, but hey that`s life, some people are just vendictive & others are nice... doesn`t rerally worry me, i couldn`t give a shit about all those people who are obviously only jealous *smiley*

what i have found amazing tho is just how many other peoples engines have gone pop that i hadn`t heard of before i told everyone about mine,,, seems it`s a pretty common thing especially with turbo donks, & yeah it`s all 4 wire oxygen sensored & knock sensored & sequential computer blah blah blah,,, sorry but i`m not fully up to speed with all that stuff, that`s why i have friends who are, but the clutch slip got away from us & the thing spiked real hard a few times & it was all my own fault for telling them to keep trying to sort it with the slipping clutch.

New slugs & a decent clutch & we`ll be up & running again soon.

A 4-wire O2 sensor is not a wideband sensor. Tuning a turbo engine with a narrowband O2 sensor is useless at best.

sorry,,, it was being tuned with a 5 wire ... he bolted that into the dump pipe & plugged that into his lap top,,, then on the road we just plugged the 4 wire jobby in that it`s been wired in to the Adaptronic, when we got to the dyno he plugged the 5 wire back in & started playing again.

it definately didn`t lean out tho,,, & we (the tune boys) "thought" the ignition was set quite gentle, but we did have this intermitant jump & they`re believeing that to be the reason for the disaster,,, they`re now trying to work out if it was caused by the crank sensor or some "C" language compiling whatever blah blah algarithum computer blah blah blah glitch,,, farked if i know,,,, sorry i`m not very computer savy, but i`m learning, maybe the hard way, but at least i`m learning *smiley*

What are you turbo guys doing for a "decent" clutch??? the orange just doesn`t cut it & i`m feeling like a grey might not either But I just didn`t really want to fit my full race package in there as this moke is mainly for road use with the occasional track day , but maybe i`ll just have to change the wastegate actuator over to a 7lb one & fit a grey diph with AP plate???
