wtf!! how does anyone let their brakes get like that??

I remember seeing a volvo a good few years ago which had worn through to the fins of the venting but it looked possitively new in comparison to this!

I'm liking the boobs halfway down the page!

Ive seen them also worn down to the vents...


And its a nightmare clening the rust dust off the side of the car and wheels afterwards !!!!

I wanted to post up a pic of my friends brake disc, but he accidently took the wrong one.

It was a grooved disc on a crx, but it looked like it had delaminated. There was shiny metal, and chunks of this had peeled off to reveal a dull chunky metal underneath.
The pads are fine

What would have caused this?

i used to run a metro van years ago, [don't larf] and i let the pads get so low they were grating on the disks for about 2 weeks, when i finally got around to changing the pads i prised a big screwdriver between the disk and pad backing and trhe disk collapsed inwards,

I've seen discs like this, on the front of a girl I used to work with Ford Escort. She has asked me to change the discs and pads, some relation or other worked at Ford so would get her the bits cheap. So she turned up, got one side in pieces to find the pads were correct, but the discs were wrong. So I reassembled and off she went saying she would get the right bits and arrange with me in a week or so to change them. The discs weren't horrendous but the pads were pretty low.

Fast foward about a month, not heard from her and hadn't seen her at work, all of a sudden get a phone call, her car is stuck at her college with no brakes.

Yep you've guessed it, the pads wore down to the back plates, she heard the grinding but kept driving. Until one day pulling into the college car park "BANG" and no brakes.

The paper thin annulus of metal that was the remains of the solid brake disc had broken off around the inner diameter where it met the disc "hub".

Unbelieveable! Anyway, emergency repairs carried out in the car park and then she drove it back.

Wow they got their moneys worth out of them discs!

No, wish I had though, she was fit as fcuk,

we had a car recovered in after an accident last weekend, soco found that the pads had worn though the metal backing and this had let the pistons push out

soco only usually get involved in a fatal crash

My cousin took her BMW 5 series into a garage to have the tyres changed. the mechanicafter taking the rear wheels refused to hand the car back unless she had the brake disc and pads changen then and there. I kid you not they looked exactly like those.

When she showed me the bit's my imagination could not view them as parts of a brake disc. I have never seen anything like it until now!

I actually thought that was a picture of her car until I lokked a bit further.
