i have just put on a swiftune duplex kit and i was wondering if i need to put the old standard tensioner back on or not bother?

Don't bother, you don't need the tensioner on the duplex chain setup.

Personally I do fit the tensioner. Duplux or not the chain can still have slack in it without.

I've also used the tensioner on a duplex chain, they are just about wide enough to do it....

Chains stretch whether simplex or duplex so why leave out the tensioner if it can be fitted ???

also while we are on timing gear does the splash plate matter that goes over the cam?

Do you mean the one spot welded to the inside of the timing chain cover ???

If so, I had to cut mine back to clear the duplex sprocket.

no not on the cover it self, its like a big washer that goes onto the crank or cam i cant remember.

The big "washer" is an oil thrower, it's dished and only goes one way around.

It's there to minimise the oil leaking through the lip seal - leave it out and you will have more leaks than normal from that seal !!!!

I suspect running without a tensioner will cause exrta grag on the engine as the chain will have a little whip in it added to that the sympathetic vibrations that might be caused could increase ware rate, just a thought
