I'm thinking about building a welding bench, having spoken to my metal supplier the thickest sheet steel they can get is 5mm, given a 2"x2" lattice underneath do you reckon this will be thick enough?

5mm is very strong so with bracing under it, yes it will be fine

Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph
First 5 port miniturbo to make over 200 bhp on a carb?

I made a welding bench from 25mm OD alu tubing.

Wanted to do all stainless, but that was too expensive. The Alu was cheap, and I wanted to practise Alu welding ( which Im crap at, and still crap at )

What a nightmare that was !! but it came out alright in the end, and I added a stainloess shelf on the bottom, where the TIG can sit, and another shelf up top for welding on.

Ideally I still need to make a platform for teh Argon bottle to sit on too.

Made it with wheels/castors at one end, so it can be moved, but there is that much crap in my garage....I can barely find room to move the bottle letalone an entire table *happy*

I had pics somewhere......dunno where

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Pic before I got the stainless surfaces ( they were expensive ), just bought an 8x4 sheet of 1.5mm and cut it to size, and kept the rest fo spare.

Here's where I'm at so far:
