If you decide to modify standard rods you could try carl @ force racing for rod modification. fastcarl on the forum.
If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

John got some made with A+ size big ends. I'm lucky enough to have one under the bench for a rainy day. |

The way I look at it is that these steel rods may not be needed in a lot of cases, but looking at the cost of getting a standard set modified there doesn't seem to be a massive amount of money in it.

I use them, they heavier than other steel rods out there, but not as expensive.

My Carillo rods also required the bottom of the bore to be relieved to provide clearance. |

I'm sure the SC rods are good bits of kit, we have a set on the shelf, but they are heavier than a worked set of A+ rods. On 15th May, 2009 TurboDave said:

What do you weigh them in at? my estimate was going by the weight quoted on the sc website vs the wight of a worked rod being about 595g I picked one of the h section rods up the other day, and there didn't seem to be a lot of weight to it. But then again I'm not a pair of scales. On 7th Oct, 2010 5haneJ said:

Alot heavier??? I was thinking more of strength than anything else, I know Ill never rev it past 7-7.5K as I dont have the balls, but would be nice to know it would survive it I did LOL And before its said, Im going for a steel flywheel too, just dont know which one yet. How badly does the ultra light make them idle?? Bearing in mind Ill be using it with a 7 port with something like a piper 300 cam.......... Im going to buy one of those new MED Verto flywheels next year, as the preverto is a royal PITA, Verto seems to be fit and forget, and the RTS version looks to give the clamping forces most turbo engines need. Thats weird, cos every engine I have had that is Verto has been a pain in the chuff to remove! Every Pre-verto Ive managed to get the flywheel off again............oh what to do! |
