do a seach on here what the ecu does, basically bin it and fit a bleed valve of some description do another search.
fitting an intercooler is a good idea and if you fit a good size one you shouldnt notice any difference, dont fit a massive big one like i did though *smiley*

just thought are you onabout the metro turbo ecu or your injection ecu?

Edited by Carl on 13th Nov, 2004.

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

you won't lose peak power, but you will lose midrange torque - and around 50% of the fun factor...

I was thinking about keeping the ecu (injection) you cause i wouldn't have to do any wire plug her in and a way i go! I just wondered by doing the wireing though the dizy to you gain anymore power?

And i was thinking about putting on a intercooler off an Cosworth Sierra that to big or alright?

And i'm not putting a bleed value on cos i'm only running standard boost and it wouldn't do much cos i need it to keep running everyday

i wouldn't have thought you could use the standard mini ECU at all dude. there's no sensors on the turbo lump to give it any info.

I've got a sierra 2wd cossie IC to go in mine when i put the clubby flip front on it, fits perfectly behind the grille. you can get em in a roundnose with a bit of work, have a look at turbo tim's car if you can find any pics of it.

Zeemx...

you CAN'T use the Rover MEMS (SPi / MPi) ECU at all for the turbo conversion.
Both use the ignition map in the ECU, which is corrected by the throttle position and engine rpm. There is no throttle position sensor on the SU HIF turbo carb, nor is there a crank sensor on the turbo engine. So, if you fit a turbo engine, the Rover EFI stuff - including the fuel and ignition bits - are no use at all.
As i mentioned before, carefully remove the efi bitsand flog them on ebay or similar. Take an ignition live from the fusebox and connect straight to the positive side of the coil. Also connect to the fuel pump via an inertia switch.

That is all you have to do. Sorry - let me re-phrase that;
That is ALL you CAN do - the MEMS ECU is a paperweight and nothing more with the 'turbo' instalation.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Maybe he was getting confused and thought you were on about the metty turbo ecu. All this does is regulate boost. bit of a waste of space and wiring.

Keep things simple *smiley* go with the advice given and you'll be fine

Having seen Tim's and Vegard's mates instalations, I'd be looking at the 2wd cosworth intercooler mounted in front of the spark plugs. These are fantastically efficient units - and makes fora VERY neat install.
Also means you don't need to mess about squeezing in in between the grill and the dizzy.
Save yourselfsome hassle though, and get the 60mm pipes cut off flush with the endcaps, and some 50mm pipe tig welded into place instead. Maybe even re-direct the pipes so they are pointing in a better orientation?

Make sure you flush out the intercooler after cutting around the endcaps. Do one end at a time, then flush it through from the other end. Once happy that it's free of swarf / filings, cut off the other pipe, then flush through the opposite way from last time.

Of course, you'll need a few holes in your bonnet, but that's ok for most peeps!

Sorry about the ECU confusion - definately get rid of All the ECU's. All you need to do is get it set up on the max boost you're happy to run - considering power and transmission longevity - and you'll be grinning all the way. Recomended RR are Baldwins and Vmax.

Hope that helps.
